Vsevolod “Seva” Tsodokov: A Visionary Convergence of Art, Engineering, and Sustainable Innovation
Vsevolod “Seva” Tsodokov is a distinguished inventor, materials engineer, and master craftsman, with over 25 years of groundbreaking experience at the intersection of sustainable design, advanced fabrication, and functional art. A true polymath and hands-on problem-solver, Seva is the visionary founder and CEO of MetaComb Inc., pioneering revolutionary structural composite panels from upcycled corrugated cardboard. As the original inventor of MetaComb™ material, he holds four issued U.S. patents, embodying his philosophy of "super-functional art"—technologies that are elegant, efficient, and deeply sustainable. His entrepreneurial drive also established Boston Door Company in 2008, a firm celebrated for its master-level restoration of historic wooden doors and architectural elements, serving clients like MIT and Boston University.
Seva's extensive background includes building luxury custom homes and executing museum-quality installations in Nantucket, Miami, and Boston, showcasing his expertise in architectural wood milling, precision model-making, and high-efficiency fabrication systems. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, his artistic journey began with classical sculpture training, followed by a diverse academic path in mathematics and economics at Brandeis, and physics and industrial design at Wentworth Institute of Technology, complemented by architectural studies at MassArt. His design philosophy centers on functionality, proportion, and lifecycle, ensuring that objects crafted from quality materials with meticulous attention to detail become cherished, long-lasting heirlooms. He consistently pushes material performance boundaries, often finding inspiration in nature for bio-inspired solutions.
Beyond his innovative work, Seva is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, an advanced PADI scuba diver, and a former Division I-level and semi-professional basketball player, reflecting his multifaceted passions. He maintains an active studio practice in Cambridge, MA. You can explore more of Seva’s work and ventures at MetaComb.com, BostonDoorCompany.net, and Tsodokov.com.
